British sports presenter Ian Wright has flown home from the soccer World Cup in Brazil after his wife and two children were held hostage at knife point by robbers at their London home on Wednesday night (18Jun14).
The former soccer star, who has been covering the international tournament for a U.K. Tv network, raced back to Britain to be with his loved ones when he learned of his family's ordeal.
The gang of four forced their way into the London property after Wright's wife Nancy answered the door. They then held a knife to her throat and threatened to chop off her children's fingers if she did not give them cash and jewellery.

Ian Wright and Kirsty Gallacher have been named as the new presenters for the return of Gladiators.
The competitive series disappeared from UK screens in 2000, after an eight-year run of amateur athletes battling against muscle-bound gladiators in events requiring speed, agility and strength.
But with the return of Gladiators to UK screens, a new set of contenders will have the chance to compete in events such as Duel, Hang Tough, Gauntlet and The Eliminator.
Original referee John Anderson will return when the new show airs on Sky One and Sky One HD this May, while Wright and Gallacher will follow in the footsteps of John Fashanu and Ulrika Jonsson.
Former Arsenal footballer Wright, now a TV pundit, said: "Gladiators is a great show and I am thrilled to be involved.
"Since people first heard it was coming back the response has been phenomenal and I am so excited that a new generation get to experience it."
And Gallacher, daughter of professional golfer Bernard said she "grew up with Gladiators".
"I couldn't be more excited to be involved in the new series," she added.
"It promises to be great entertainment on a major scale and I can't wait to get started."

Kelly Osbourne has become the latest celebrity to take over the reins at Big Brother and already seems to be winning over the housemates.
The Chicago star is the fourth person to be in control of the house in Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack, following in the footsteps of Matt Lucas, Ian Wright and Alan Cummings.
As she settled down into her new role she kicked off with an announcement that nominations would take place in 15 minutes.
Nathan appears to have taken a shine to the new house mistress, telling her "you sound sexy".
But it seems that Kelly will be one hard task master, chiding him: "Don't be a perv."
Females as well as males have taken a shine to their new boss, with Amy saying Kelly eases the pain of nominations.
And it is not just the singer who is winning over their hearts, as John shouted out: "I love your mum!"
Viewers will learn tonight what tasks Kelly has them performing; the previous celebs in control had housemembers playing different roles; obeying their every word; and having their hearing blocked temporarily.

Former Arsenal and England footballer Ian Wright has taken over as the celebrity hijacker in Big Brother.
The one-time record goalscorer at the Gunners has succeeded comedian Matt Lucas as the caretaker Big Brother as the new series gets up and running.
Show bosses are hoping the BBC pundit's notorious sense of humour will help boost flagging audience figures, after the show saw half of its viewers desert after the launch show.
Writing in his online blog for the show's website, the 44-year-old said he was "not one of those who acts too cool to watch Big Brother".
"I'm not going to be a mean hijacker, I am going to deal with them as I would deal with that sort of age group if I met them on the street. I will speak to them nicely and ask them to do stuff," he wrote.
As his first job today, Wright set the housemates a task designed to test how they coped with "sensory deprivation".
He arranged the contestants into pairs and asked them to take part in two tests of the senses.
The first involved preventing one of the pair from hearing while the other had to respond to sound effects and the second saw the housemates take penalties while wearing goggles which affected their vision.
Celebrity Hijack sees a range of talented individuals fill the house with various celebrities making the rules and setting the challenges.
