Leading Scottish author Ian Rankin has turned down the chance to write fellow countryman Sean Connery's memoirs.

The thriller writer met up with the James Bond actor recently (SEP04) - when the Hollywood star suggested Rankin help him pen his life story.

Rankin explains, "I met Sean at Gleneagles (Scotland) a few weeks ago. I think he's looking for someone to help with the memoirs.

"It's not something that appeals to me immediately, although it would be interesting to see what his life is like.

"It's a book I'd like to read."
