BLACKADDER star Hugh Laurie's TV success in America has cost him the role of the boss of Superman's alter-ego Clark Kent in the upcoming SUPERMAN RETURNS movie.

Laurie was scheduled to play PERRY WHITE in Bryan Singer's new comic book adaptation, but due to a scheduling conflict with the hit new medical show the British actor has been forced to quit the film, which started shooting in Australia last month (MAR05).

According to trade paper HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE star Frank Langella will replace Laurie as the DAILY PLANET editor.

James Marsden (Richard White), Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane), newcomer BRANDON ROUTH (SUPERMAN/CLARK KENT), Eva Marie Saint (MARTHA KENT) and Kevin Spacey (LEX LUTHER) have already signed up for parts in the new movie.
