The medical dram 'House', starring Hugh Laurie, came to a close last night (May 21, 2012) after eight seasons on the air. The show became a surprise hit in the United States and made British comedic actor Laurie one of the highest paid television actors in the world. The penultimate episode had left Dr House facing jail, and viewers tuned in expecting things to end badly for the much-loved character.
However, in keeping with the twists and turns synonymous with the show, the writers decided to give Dr House a happy ending after all. Initially, the finale appeared to suggest House was dead, after being identified in a burning building and even having a funeral go ahead for family and friends. However, as his colleague Dr Wilson read out an emotional eulogy at the event, he received a text requesting that he stopped behind an idiot - from guess who?
It transpired that Laurie's character had faked his own death in order to escape prison. The final moments saw the doctor and Wilson riding off into the sunset on motorcycles, providing a fitting end to a show that has been one of the mainstays of American television since 2004.
