Ahead of The Wolverine's release, check out the new TV spot.
The Wolverine hasn’t even hit cinemas yet, but considering the reviews – and they’re not pretty – it’s going to take some pretty ardent superhero fans to brave a trip to see Hugh Jackman’s reincarnation as the bladed yellow wolf-man.
Jackman pops those veins as Wolverine
So, in a brazen attempt to bolster those all-important box office numbers, a fancy TV spot has hit town, and you can check that mother out below. The Wolverine sees Jackman travel to a new and exotic location for the franchise reboot. Japan. There, he is offered a chance to forfeit his powers in exchange for a peaceful ‘retirement’ of sorts, but he soon finds out that’s not the case.
Starring Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, and Brian Tee, The Wolverine has failed to capitalize on the good work done by other superhero films of late, if the reviews are anything to go by.
Wolverine hasn't gone down well with the critics
An overall rating of 65% on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes isn’t the worst we’ve ever seen, but it’s certainly by no means the best. “The fights are predictable, the scenery disappointingly drab considering the potential in Tokyo's neon-lit wonder-world,” say The Guardian, while The Daily Telegrah ask, “Sorry, but didn't superhero films outgrow all of this five or so years ago?”
You never see a happy Wolverine - doesn't exist
The Wolverine is scheduled to be released on July 24, 2013 in various international markets; July 25, 2013 in Australia; and on July 26, 2013 in the United States. If you’re a fan of the comic book series, then you won’t even be reading this article, you’ll be on the phone to the cinema to book your ticket. But if you’re looking for this summer’s blockbuster superhero flick, then we’re afraid you’ve missed it, it was Iron Man 3.
