Peter was sent to an orphanage as a young boy with nothing but a small metal pan pendant left to him by his mother, who predicted great things for her son. Indeed, he goes on to experience the most exciting childhood anyone could dream to have, flying around on airborne ships from the mystical world of Neverland. And while it may be an enjoyable time, there are still great dangers that lie before him; the most feared pirate in all the land, Blackbeard, is out to bring the land under his tyrannous rule and Peter finds himself a target. Meanwhile, he meets James Hook, a fellow traveller who becomes his friend and protector, and it isn't long before he then bumps into a vibrant tribe led by the formidable Tiger Lily, who reveals to him that his arrival marks the end of the pirates' terror. 'Chappie' Star Dev Patel Admits Co-Starring With A Robot Brought Its Challenges

Dev Patel Sharlto Copley Neill Blomkamp Die Antwoord Hugh Jackman Sigourney Weaver

Dev Patel stars in one of the most unusual sci-fi movies of recent years, 'Chappie', in which he plays a celebrated engineer and inventor of a robotic police force. However, communicating with a robot as opposed to another actor was always going to bring its challenges.

Dev Patel in 'Chappie'
Dev Patel stars alongside Sharlto Copley in 'Chappie'

He's probably best known for starring in the Oscar winning Eastern drama 'Slumdog Millionaire', but Dev Patel is no stranger to the sci-fi fantasy genre. In 2010, he appeared in M. Night Shyamalan's 'The Last Airbender', but rather than having to weave around various special effects, this time he was expected to enact scenes with an inanimate object.

Chappie Review

Good

This is a terrific small film about artificial intelligence wrapped within a much bigger, less involving action blockbuster. When he's grappling with issues of existence and consciousness, filmmaker Neill Blomkamp has a lot of fascinating things to say. But he also seems unable to resist tipping everything into contrived chaos, adding an unconvincing villain and lots of violent gun battles. It's an awkward mix that might please action movie fans more than those who like to engage their brains.

It's set after 2016, when the Johannesburg police deployed a team of Scout robots to bring order to the gang-ruled streets. This has been a bonanza for the tech company Tetravaal, run by hard-nosed CEO Michelle (Sigourney Weaver), who chose the Scout model, designed by the nerdy Deon (Dev Patel), over a more military-style behemoth called Moose, designed by trigger-happy Vincent (Hugh Jackman). Meanwhile, a low-life trio of offbeat, high-energy thugs (Ninja, Yo-Landi Visser and Jose Pablo Cantillo) decide to crack into the Scout's control system, so they kidnap Deon, inadvertently getting their hands on his newest prototype, the first truly sentient robot. When he's switched on, Chappie (Copley) has a sensitive soul and learns rather too quickly from his captors.

With films like District 9 and Elysium, Blomkamp showed an ability to seamlessly integrate technology with a rough and real story, and the effects work here is remarkable mainly because we never see how they're done. The robots look utterly natural mixing with humans, and Copley's performance is so astonishing that Chappie quickly becomes a hugely sympathetic character, uncannily taking on the traits of the people around him. It also helps that the film's script continually puts Chappie into situations that force us to feel his emotions and, most importantly, his powerful sense of self-preservation. Yes, he wants to live!

Mankind has the potential to build wondrous things, yet it also truly fears what it doesn't understand. After working for the best part of a year on creating a thinking, feeling artificial intelligence, Deon Wilson (Dev Patel) is close to realising that vision. Said vision is CHAPPiE (Sharlto Copley), and when he is finally activated, he serves as a true breakthrough for mankind. CHAPPiE is a capable of thinking and learning, yet he also has the potential for creating destruction. It is this potential that worries Vincent Moore (Hugh Jackman), who sets out with the intent to destroy CHAPPiE before he can cause any damage.

Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb Review

Good

Now in its third instalment, it's clearer than ever that this franchise is based on one joke that has been stretched far beyond the breaking point. And not too cleverly at that. Fortunately, this movie retains much of the deranged idiocy that made the second part rather enjoyable. So it's watchable even if there aren't many new ideas, and even if filmmaker Shawn Levy is far too happy to settle for unnecessary digital effects work where a bit of character comedy would have been much more engaging.

Back on the job as a night watchman in New York, Larry (Ben Stiller) is now orchestrating the museum exhibits when they come to life to provide spectacular shows for visitors who think this is all a special effect. Even his boss (Ricky Gervais) isn't sure what's really going on. But when a glitch in the magical Ancient Egyptian powers causes chaos, Larry learns that he needs to travel to London so he can reunite Ahkmenrah (Rami Malek) with his father (Ben Kingsley), who's on display at the British Museum. Larry's teen son Nick (Skyler Gisondo) comes along, as do his revived pals Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams), tiny soldiers Octavius and Jedediah (Steve Coogan and Owen Wilson) and others. But in London, while sneaking around local night guard Tilly (Rebel Wilson), Larry's team awakens a statue of the knight Lancelot (Dan Stevens), who dives into their quest with rather a bit too much gusto.

Until Lancelot turns up, everything about the film feels oddly tired, from the starry cameos to effects work that strains to be clever. Then Stevens injects a badly needed jolt of blue-eyed charisma and warped comical timing that makes the rest of the movie rather good fun. Rebel Wilson's side-plot is also rather amusing, with some wonderfully ridiculous touches. And even the cameos get better, notably a scene on a West End stage that's genuinely inspired silliness. Coogan and Wilson offer some raucous banter to accompany everything that happens, and Stiller kind of hangs on for dear life. But the filmmakers don't really care about these characters; they're just trying to create something visually impressive that's also goofy fun.

Hugh Jackman's Peter Pan Origins Film 'Pan': Everything You Need To Know

Hugh Jackman Rooney Mara Garrett Hedlund

Hugh Jackman posted one very exciting image on his Instagram account yesterday! Along with the caption “Blackbeard is born #PAN,” Jackman posted a photo of himself with a shaved head. The hashtag refers to his upcoming film Pan, Warner Bros extremely close-guarded project about Peter Pan.

We really don’t know much so far about Pan, although there’s a few facts that we’ve managed to dig out and get a better idea of what’s going on. There have been a few films regarding author and playwright J.M. Barrie and his character Peter Pan in the past few years, so we’re hoping that the upcoming film will bring something new to the mix. Recent Peter Pan films include the 2002 Disney animation Return to Never Land, the 2003 indie film Neverland, the 2003 live-action Peter Pan starring Jeremy Sumpter and Finding Neverland, the 2004 semi-biographical film starring Johnny Depp as J.M. Barrie.

Tony Awards 2014: So How Did Hugh Jackman Do?

Hugh Jackman Clint Eastwood Sting

Not only are the Tonys hilarious, entertaining… glittery, etc. – they’re also pretty democratic. In an over-the top show hosted by Hugh Jackman, top prizes went to A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Beautiful: The Carol King Musical, as well as competitors Robert Schenkkan’s All the Way for best play, to Hedwig and the Angry Inch for best musical revival, and to A Raisin in the Sun for best play revival, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hugh Jackman
Ten years after his first time hoSting, Jackman has gotten even better.

As for Hugh Jackman, who hosted the musical theatre awards for the first time in a decade, the Wolverine star did not disappoint. Jackman gave it his all straight from the opening sequence, which to be fair, is often the centerpiece of the show. That Wolverine training must have come in handy, as Jackman  he hopped his way through the theater and backstage, down the aisles and into an elevator before making his way to the main stage for the show's opening.

"Why Is Hugh Bouncing?": Hugh Jackman Jumps For Joy Ahead Of Tony Awards

Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman has stepped up his efforts to promote his upcoming hosting of the Tony Awards by uploading a quirky and funny new video. The intriguing two minute clip shows the Aussie actor waking up in the morning and seemingly being unable to stoo jumping whilst he goes about his daily tasks.

After making a mess of shaving and brushing his teeth, Jackman burns himself on his coffee which he throws all over himself due to his constant bouncing. He hands a fan an illegible scribble for an autograph and heads out of his hotel to bounce down the street.

His bouncing continues even when he makes an appearance on ESPN. "Why is Hugh bouncing?" the video asks. Apparently, all will be revealed at Sunday night's Tony Awards.

How Does X-Men: Days Of Future Past's Debut Compare To Other Box Office Goliaths?

James McAvoy Hugh Jackman

Memorial Weekend hasn’t just frustrated Game of Thrones fans, it also saw X-Men: Days of Future Past storm the box office with a global total of $261m – a new record for the franchise internationally. Despite that, though, it looks as though Wolverine et al aren’t even in the top ten when it comes to first weekends.

X-Men: Days of Future PastNick Hoult, James McAvoy and Hugh Jackman in X-Men: Days of Future Past

In fact, it comes in 16th, just ahead of The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King, which grabbed $250m on its first weekend out in the open, and just behind Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – a $272m debut for Paramount. All these numbers are from the excellent Box Office Mojo.

X-men: Days Of Future Past Review

Excellent

Continuing to be the most original and resonant of the Marvel superhero franchises, the X-men return in the capable hands of director Bryan Singer, who again stirs plenty of meaty subtext beneath the thrilling action. He also has one of the best casts imaginable, including Oscar winners, cinema royalty, rising stars and matinee idols.

Best of all, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) returns to the fold after two less-than-thrilling solo adventures. He's at the centre of everything here, as Professor X and Magneto (Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen) ask Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) to send Wolverine's consciousness back 50 years to 1973. His mission is to prevent Dr Trask (Peter Dinklage) from inventing mutant-hunting robots, because they will go out of control and cause a present-day dystopia in which mutants and anyone who sympathises with them are killed. But Wolverine's biggest task will be to get the then-feuding Professor X and Magneto (James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender) to work together to keep renegade mutant Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) from making everything worse.

Thankfully, Simon Kinberg's script doesn't worry too much about the whole time-travel thing, shrugging off dubious logic by keeping the focus on the characters. And there are a lot of people to keep an eye on, which makes the film sometimes feel a bit crowded and leaves some characters barely on-screen at all (blink and you'll miss Anna Paquin's Rogue). The best newbie is Evan Peters' Quicksilver, who gets the film's most entertaining sequence as he races around tweaking an action sequence frame by frame. Other set-pieces are grippingly darker, and some don't quite make sense (why does Magneto feel the need to levitate an entire stadium?).

The Avengers Vs X-Men? James McAvoy Wants To See It. Wants To Get Involved

James McAvoy Hugh Jackman

Both X-Men and The Avengers are Marvel’s biggest movie properties. With 'Days of Future Past' currently in the process of dismantling box offices around the world and putting them back together in the shape of a big X, those Avengers will be performing similar feats next year when 'Age of Ultron' hits town and tries to outgun the $1.5 billion dollar machine that preceded it.

X-Men Days of Future PastLooks like James McAvoy is ready to fight just about anyone, including himself?

One can only imagine, then, what it would be like if Marvel decided to include the two franchises in one movie. Marvel geeks out there will instantly be able to flag up any continuity and lore-based stumbling blocks with that, while the more business minded fans would cite rights and ownership. But as Hugh Jackman says on SiriusXM Town Hall hosted by Jess Cagle, if someone wants to make it happen, it could probably happen.
