Hugh Grant has become a father, it has been announced, welcoming a baby daughter into his life. An actor who has had high profile relationships in the past with the likes of Elizabeth Hurley and British socialite Jemima Khan, the identity of the child's mother has been kept a secret, the birth having occurred following a short affair between the two.
Reuters UK confirmed that the 51 year-old was to be a father for the first time, having received an email from Grant's people that read, "I can confirm that Hugh Grant is the delighted father of a baby girl. He and the mother had a fleeting affair and while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive. He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms".
Grant has had a quiet year career-wise by his usual prolific standards. The British actor became known in the 1990s for a series of roles in successful romantic comedies including 'Four Weddings And A Funeral' and 'Notting Hill' - he also appeared in the film adaptation of the Nick Hornby book 'About A Boy' where he played a perceived cool late 30s man suddenly finding himself playing role model to a disenfranchised 12 year-old boy; it'll be interesting to see whether he adopts similar parenting techniques in real life.
