Singers Hot Chelle Rae were forced to cancel a summer concert in New York City on Friday morning (20Jul12) due to heavy rain.
The I Like It Like That hitmakers were slated to perform in Rockefeller Plaza as part of U.S. breakfast show Today's concert series but, due to stormy conditions, the band was barred from taking the stage.
In a post on Twitter.com, the group writes, "Thank you so much to everyone that came out today. Unbelievable turn out. We would have met you all, but they made us stop due... to weather and safety."
The group members then focused their attention on an overnight cinema massacre in Colorado, which took over the breakfast show.
Twelve people were killed and dozens injured after a gunman opened fire in a packed movie theatre during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises.
Hot Chelle Rae tweeted, "All our thoughts and prayers are with the families that fell victim to the inhumane acts of…. This mornings (sic) shooting…. Won’t be thinking of anything else."
The tragedy also prompted bosses behind rival programme Good Morning America to refrain from airing the Central Park performances of pop singers Karmin and Dragonette. Instead, they dedicated the segment to coverage of the deadly rampage.
Alerting viewers to the change in schedule, Karmin tweeted, "Thank you for standing out in the rain!! We didn't air due to the Colorado tragedy. Rescheduling... Our thoughts & prayers go out to those involved in the Aurora, CO shooting."
