The New York senator was furious when the then American President confessed to an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky in August 1998, but managed to rebuild their marriage by attending intense marriage counselling - as well as looking to the example of former South African President Mandela, who managed to forgive the apartheid regime who kept him imprisoned for 27 years.
She explains, "Bill and I agreed to participate in regular marital counselling to determine whether we were going to salvage our marriage. It forced us to ask and answer hard questions that years of non-stop campaigning had allowed us to postpone.
