Former HAPPY DAYS star Henry Winkler is refusing to unpack his suitcase after moving to New York for a star turn on Broadway until he reads the play's reviews.

The actor plays an ageing porn star opposite Cheyenne Jackson and Alicia Silverstone in David West Read's comedy The Performers at the Longacre Theater in New York and the curtain is due to go up on the show in November (12).

Winkler begins previews later this month (Oct12) and he has signed on for a long stint in the show, but he is determined not to get settled in New York until after the play's first reviews hit news stands.

He tells the New York Post, "I don't live here (in New York), so I'm in a hotel. Better than renting an apartment. In a hotel, at least they make my bed. And although I've brought enough clothes to last through next spring, I haven't unpacked yet. I won't unpack until I see the reviews."

The Performers marks Winkler's first appearance on Broadway since starring in Neil Simon's The Dinner Party in 2000.
