DAME Helen Mirren has vowed not to be intimidated by her next role as British monarch Queen Elizabeth II, and will play the part as realistically as possible.

THE CALENDAR GIRLS actress takes on the royal role in forthcoming movie THE QUEEN, which explores the relationship between Elizabeth and British Prime Minister Tony Blair following DIANA, Princess Of Wales' tragic death in 1997.

The 60-year-old actress is determined to give an honest portrayal and insists she will afford the Queen no specialist treatment.

She says, "I do feel a sense of responsibility. If she was someone working in the local grocery store, I'd feel the same way.

"I don't want to let down the truth of her life."

Mirren has just finished playing another British monarch, QUEEN ELIZABETH I, in a British TV drama which focuses on her relationship with the EARL OF ESSEX.
