Dame Helen Mirren was asked to reprise her role as Queen Elizabeth II for a comedy scene in her new movie Red 2, but the veteran actress decided it would be a bad idea.
The actress won an Oscar for her portrayal of the British monarch in 2006 film The Queen, and she recently played her again in West End stage show The Audience.
Mirren has now revealed the producers of Red 2 wanted to include a regal moment in the action sequel when her retired assassin character pretended to be delusional to gain access to an asylum, but the actress rejected the idea.
She tells Britain's The Independent, "The writers thought it was very funny, of course, that I would pretend to be the Queen. I suggested it should be Elizabeth I, I thought that would be a funnier take than the present Queen... I so tried to wriggle out of that particular mantle."
