The Book Of Life - International Trailer

Manolo has a lot of pressure forced upon him from his family regarding his future, but all he wants to do is marry the woman of his dreams, Maria. However, he is not the only person who wants to make Maria his wife and he is in serious competition with her charming and handsome suitor (and his own best friend) Joaquin. Meanwhile, two spirits of The Land of the Remembered named La Muerte and Xibalba look upon the scene in fascination during the Day of the Dead; a time when spirits are able to effect the the land of the living as they pass between worlds. They decide to make a bonding wager on who will win Maria's affection, with La Muerte betting on Manolo being the victor. When it looks like she might be right, Xibalba has him killed by a snake and taken over to the Land of the Remembered where he is forced to face his biggest fears in order to see his beloved once again.

Book Of Life Trailer

In Mexico, two best friends Manolo (Diego Luna) and Joaquin (Channing Tatum) fall in love with the same girl, Maria (Zoe Saldana and so both face each other for her love. Two spirits passing through the world, La Muerte (Kate del Castillo) and Xibalba (Ron Perlman), make a bet over who will triumph out of the two. Muerte on Manolo and Xibalba on Joaquin. When the Xibalba feels the odds are against him, he brings Manolo into The Land Of The Remembered.

The Book Of Life sees Manolo setting out on an exciting, but dangerous journey across three majestic worlds where he will face his greatest challenges, in order to return to Mexico and win over Maria once and for all.

From producer Guillermo Del Toro, The Book Of Life is an animated comedy film directed by Jorge Gutierrez and written by Gutierrez and Doug Langdale (Aladdin: The Return of Jafar). The Book Of Life sees Gutierrez attempt a Nightmare Before Christmas esque Tim Burton style, with jovially dark animation. With exceptional visuals and a story of fortitude, The Book Of Life should be a loveable film for all.

New Year's Eve Review

Terrible
The team that made the thin-but-enjoyable Valentine's Day in 2010 reunites for another massively overextended rom-com with a remarkable A-list ensemble. But this time the stories and filmmaking overdose on ill-conceived schmaltz.

As the countdown to 2012 begins, an executive (Swank) is frazzled about a technical glitch in the iconic Time's Square ball-drop. Meanwhile, a courier (Efron) is trying to help a frumpy secretary (Pfeiffer) achieve her dreams. A chef (Heigl) is catering a glittering event while trying to avoid her rock star ex (Bon Jovi), whose back-up singer (Michele) is stuck in a lift with a lovelorn slacker (Kutcher). A mother (Parker) is worried about her teen daughter (Breslin). And a tuxedoed millionaire (Duhamel) is trying to get to an important event in the city.

Valentine's Day Review

Good
With an enormous ensemble cast and more intertwined plots than you can count, this fluffy concoction is shamelessly sentimental and silly, and yet it's also an undemanding crowd-pleaser.

Valentine's Day in Los Angeles brings a series of romantic crises. A flower seller (Kutcher) has proposed to his less-than-keen girlfriend (Alba), then discovers his best friend's (Garner) boyfriend (Dempsey) is married. A phone-sex operator (Hathaway) is afraid to tell her boyfriend (Grace) what she does for a living. An romance-hating publicist (Biel) is helping her client (Dane) manage a media storm. A group of teens (Swift, Lautner, Roberts and Jenkins) are grappling with chastity. And two strangers (Roberts and Cooper) strike up a conversation on a trans-Atlantic flight.

I-See-You.Com Review

Weak
A family's entire life is streamed live on the Internet, without their knowing it! Oh wait, you've heard this one before? Yeah, the atrociously titled I-See-You.Com might have made waves in 2002, but today it's awfully tepid, a retread of stories told so often they've come to feel like cliches.

When his family's finances hit the skids, Colby (Mathew Botuchis, who doesn't even get his name on the DVD cover) decides to install webcams throughout his house and turn his family's life into an online web show. Dad (Beau Bridges) is a gross weirdo. Mom (Rosanna Arquette) is a sex-obsessed cougar with a penchant for betting big on the stock market. And the main attraction is sis Audrey (Baelyn Neff), a teen hottie with a plethora of sexual gadgetry and lots of free time on her hands.

Picking Up The Pieces Review

Bad
Normally, I'd say any movie that features Woody Allen as a homocidal maniac is okay in my book, if only Picking Up the Pieces didn't bore you to tears en route to the funny stuff, which consists solely of Allen's spare one-liners. The plot, involving a New Mexico community that rallies around Allen's dead wife's severed hand thanks to its miracle-granting powers, shows a ton of promise, but never delivers. Note to Alfonso Arau: more boobs.

Raising Helen Review

Weak
The poster for Raising Helen features Kate Hudson, in a pose suited for a bearskin rug, sporting shorts shorter than the Hulk's temper and fuzzy boots last seen at the hottest strip joint in Anchorage. It's an attempt at marketing a warm and fuzzy movie for guys 25 to 34, but the poster is really a harbinger for how misguided Garry Marshall's latest effort is.

Raising Helen is all about Hudson, who stars in the title role, when it should focus on other topics -- the ties of family, coping with tragedy, and starting your life from scratch. The movie harps on how Helen's glamorous life is turned upside down when she is bequeathed her sister's three kids. The story should be on how hard it is for the kids, rather than Helen's bemoaning how fat her ass has gotten.

The Princess Diaries Review

OK

Ah, the good ol' heavy glasses and frizzy hair -- Hollywood's hackneyed, telltale token of a plain girl due to have her life transformed by a makeover. Every generation of American girls gets a version of this tale thrust upon them, and this year's model is Disney's "The Princess Diaries," the story of a private school outcast who discovers she's heir to the throne of an obscure (read: fictional) European monarchy.

But this isn't your grandma's glass slipper flick. Our heroine is Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway from Fox TV's "Get Real"), a brainy, affably wry San Francisco teenager who is none too sure she even wants the crown when the grandmother she's never met comes for a visit and reveals -- surprise! -- she's the queen of Genovia.

"My expectation in life is to be invisible, and I'm good at it," Mia proclaims at the beginning of the movie. But while she skeptically contemplates accepting or renouncing her royalty -- and the responsibility and exposure that would come with it -- Mia does acquiesce to getting the "Pygmalion" treatment from her grandma (the oh-so-apropos Julie Andrews) during daily visits to the Genovian consulate.

The Other Sister Review

OK

'Tis the season of emotionally manipulative movies, thiswinter of 1998-99.

Starting on Christmas day with "Stepmom" and "Patch Adams," the major studios have served up several moviesthat shamelessly, and often insincerely, strip-mine out tear ducts forevery drop of moisture they can muster.

The second wave of this incursion started Valentine's weekendwith "MessageIn a Bottle" (widower Kevin Costner learnsto love again) and this week the siege continues with "The Other Sister,"the soft-hearted story of a mentally challenged young woman learning tosupport herself and falling in love.
