Heather Mills' former nanny SARA TRUMBLE was forced to lie to Sir Paul McCartney after the couple's bitter split, a tribunal in the U.K. has heard.
The child carer alleges she was ordered to tell the Beatles legend that his estranged wife was not at home whenever he called to collect their daughter Beatrice for a day out.
Trumble admits she hated deceiving the star, but he felt so sorry for her when she later lost her job that he offered her a "gift" - a reported $15,000 (£10,000) - to help pay her bills.
The former nanny is taking legal action against Mills, claiming sexual discrimination and constructive dismissal after losing her job in 2008.
She told the hearing, "When Paul (came) to the house I had to go out and hand over Beatrice. If Heather was there at the time I would have to say she wasn't. Paul would call me a liar. I had to say things that weren't true to Paul... (Later) Paul offered me a gift. It was after my resignation. I declined it several times. He said it was for my hard work and loyalty. It is difficult for me to talk about. Paul didn't want anyone to know he had given me this money. I don't want to get Paul involved but I have been forced to disclose this."
But Mills, who refutes Trumble's claims, later told the hearing she was so close to Trumble, she considered her a member of the family.
Mills said, "I treated Sara like my daughter as she often complained that her mother was cold and distant to her. I spent much of my time consoling her, especially when she said she was having problems with her partner."
Mills also alleged Trumble asked her to be godmother to her own daughter, adding: "She said it was because I had taken such good care of her and she could think of no one better. I was delighted."
