Captain America: The First Avenger, the highly anticipated Marvel movie set to hit cinemas this weekend, is "a love story", according to actress Hayley Atwell. The big-budget superhero flick features Chris Evans as the crime-fighting captain, but Atwell insists the movie has a softer side, reports MTV News.
The actress who plays love interest Peggy Carter, one of the only women in the movie, said, "It's got a strong, sincere love story running through it.Captain America has a sincerity. He's earnest, and there is a vulnerability about him. He's not your typical testosterone-fuelled man". Hollywood star Evans appeared to echo the comments, saying, "I don't want to give too much away, but I will say everything else in the movie aside, the one thing I think they really did right was the romance". The actor admitted 'Captain America' does a good job of establishing a romantic storyline compared to the "majority of superhero movies" he'd seen. The film, based on the classic comic book first published in 1941, also stars Dominic Cooper and Tommy Lee Jones. Initial reviews have been favourable, with the Hollywood Reporter noting, "Chris Evans' no-nonsense yet engaging portrayal of a man who doesn't know how to back away from a fight may cause young women to swoon and young men to join a gym". HitFix suggested Marvel had "saved one of their very best movies for last".
Captain America: The First Avenger is released worldwide in 3D on Friday (22nd July 2011) .
