J.K. Rowling has unveiled fresh details about the world of her boy wizard creation Harry Potter with the launch of a new website.
The writer has swathes of unpublished material - comprising of background details to the series' characters and locations - which she was forced to leave out of her original books to keep the word count down.
She has now announced she will publish the extra writings on her new website, Pottermore, to "give something back" to her loyal fans who helped turn the series into a global phenomenon and make the author a multi-millionaire.
The website will also feature a social networking forum and an interactive game which allows fans to attend virtual wizard lessons at Hogwarts.
Rowling says, "I wanted to give something back to the fans that have followed Harry so devotedly over the years, and to bring the stories to a new digital generation.
"I hope fans and those new to Harry will have as much fun helping to shape Pottermore as I have."
