The multi-millionairess has backed a campaign for the capital - where she currently resides - to be named the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) first WORLD CITY OF LITERATURE.
Rowling says, "It's impossible to live in Edinburgh without sensing its literary heritage everywhere.
"It seems eminently sensible to me to recognise this, along with the contemporary literary life here, with a permanent title that can inspire and inform other place around the world. Edinburgh has been my home since 1994.
"It was the place that Harry Potter took shape. As has been well-documented, I used to sit in the Old Town's cafes scribbling as my young daughter slept in her pushchair next to me."25/08/2004 17:24
