Who Is Celestina Warbeck, The Subject Of J.K Rowling's Latest Work?

Jk Rowling Harry Potter

Creator of one of the biggest literary and cinematic franchises of all time, JK Rowling, has recently revealed she has written a literary profile of Celestina Warbeck, a somewhat minor character who made several appearances in the Harry Potter books and ensuing films. It may strike many as particularly strange that Rowling should choose such an ancillary character upon which to divulge an in-depth life story. However, with the franchise still commanding vast legions of fans ready to lap up any fresh Potter material, such a query looks set to be made redundant rather quickly. The demand for greater insight into the fantastical world of witches, wizards, Weasley’s and Wormtail’s continues to expand like an Engorgio charm. But just who is this character? And more importantly, why has Rowling chose to compile a book on her exploits?

JK Rowling

Despite new Potter material, there's no reason to expect any significant continuation of the beloved series of books and films.

Harry Potter Fans Get Quidditch World Cup History Essay, Penned By J.K Rowling

Jk Rowling Daniel Radcliffe Harry Potter

Even years after the last Harry Potter book was released, fans of the franchise are still living off the scraps that fan fiction and the subsequent movies have provided. J.K Rowling’s latest offering, though, is more than just a scrap: she’s penned an essay detailing the history of the Quidditch World Cup for fans to dig even deeper into Potter lore.

Shrek World? Hunger Games Land? The Rise Of Movie Themed Parks

Shrek Harry Potter

Who isn’t obscenely excited about the news that DreamWorks Animation is due to team up with the chaps behind the London Eye ferris wheel to create a Shrek themed attraction park on London’s South Bank? We’ve been missing the grumpy green ogre lately so news that we’ll get the chance to meet him and all his pals in summer 2015 has probably got us more riled up than if we’d heard that Kate Middleton had become pregnant with quadruplets and was due to give birth to four royal babies at once (she isn’t).

shrek theme park Visitors to the Shrek theme park will get the chance to meet Shrek and Fiona

The theme park will be called ‘Shrek’s Far Far Away Adventure’ and will be one of six sites set up around the globe. The London Shrek site will be the first to open it’s door (yay for us!) while five more will be opened over the next 9 years, due for completion in 2023. Not only will visitors to the theme park get the chance to meet Shrek, Fiona and all of the swamp gang, characters from Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon will also be at ‘Shrek’s Far Far Away Adventure’. This cements our as of yet unexpressed opinion (for fear of backlash) that when they’re not busy filming, Disney characters really do come to life and all hang out with each other. Toy Story had a deep emotional impact on us as children.

Could Terry Gilliam Have Directed Harry Potter?

Terry Gilliam Harry Potter

Fourteen years ago the question of which director would be responsible for bringing the 'Harry Potter' franchise to the big screen was one of the most debated film topics. Chris Columbus got the job, but Terry Gilliam wanted it and the director expressed his annoyance at not be given the role at the time. Now with the benefit of hindsight who really would have been better at taking on the unenviable task of directing 'Harry Potter'.

Could Terry Gilliam have done a better job than Chris Columbus?Could Terry Gilliam have done a better job than Chris Columbus?

Who ever was given the task of bringing ‘Harry Potter’ to life onscreen for the first time was going to be carrying the hopes and expectations of millions children all over the world. This meant that the task of picking the first director would not be easy. Among the names talked about early on, were Steven Spielberg, (who wished to animate the films), Tim Robbins and M. Night Shyamalan. However Rowling’s personal pick was Terry Gilliam, whom the author was a fan of. Gilliam said in 2006 that he was the ‘perfect guy’ to direct ‘Harry Potter’, but the gig went to Chris Columbus.

Gilliam definitely had an impressive back catalogue, especially in the fantasy genre. Looking at ‘Time Bandits’ and his later works ‘Brothers Grimm’ and ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’, it’s clear Gilliam would have had the imagination to bring the ‘Harry Potter’ books to life on screen. Columbus’s previous work was less impressive. Yes ‘Home Alone’, ‘Home Alone 2’ and ‘Mrs Doubtfire.’ were box office hits aimed at a younger audience, but they were a far cry from a story with as much depth and imagination as 'Harry Potter'. What was in Columbus’s favour though was that he had written two eighties cult classics, ‘Gremlins’ and ‘The Goonies’.

What went against Gilliam was more his reputation especially when it came to budgetary matters.
Gilliam had a reputation of making movies with extremely inflated budgets, for example ‘The Adventures of Baron Munchausen’, which cost around $46 million to make and earned only about $8 million at the box office. This meant it was incredibly unlikely that Wanner Brothers would take a risk with Gilliam, especially as they were lining up the ‘Harry Potter’ movies to be a huge money making franchise.

The Nation's Favourite Children's Book? Why It's Harry Potter, Of Course

Jk Rowling Harry Potter

Later Harry Potter novels have darker themes, death and violence, but the earlier books are a veritable play pit of magic, cuddly characters, butterbear and escapism. And that’s why the first in the series, The Philosopher’s Stone, has been voted the nation’s favourite children’s book.

Harry Potter and the Philosophers StoneThe Philosopher's Stone was a real hit - it still is!

While all seven books have something for everyone – and were all popular in their own right – our introduction to Harry has proved to be the pinnacle of the spellbinding story. From his time on Privet Drive to spending his first night at Hogwarts; from meeting Hagrid to gathering supplies in Diagon Alley, The Philosopher’s Stone captured the hearts of an entire nation.

Jk Rowling Harry Potter

Did someone say Harry Potter spin-off? Surely that's too good to be true! Well apparently not, because the word on the street is that Warner Bros. are working alongside J.K. Rowling in order to bring a host of other adventures set within the same world as Harry, Ron and Hermione.

JK Rowling New 'Harry Potter' Film Series Announced By Warner Bros

Jk Rowling Harry Potter

J.K Rowling and Warner Bros are extending their successful relationship by announcing a new film series inspired by her Harry Potter franchise that will be based on the Hogwarts textbook 'Fantastic Beasts and Were To Find Them'.

Rowling will be making her screenplay writing debut, creating a new story from the mind-set of the man behind 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. The fictional author is called Newt Scamander and his adventures will be the focus of the first film in the upcoming series.

The creator of Harry Potter commented on the announcement in the official press release, "although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world".

Hands Up, Who Rejected JK Rowling's Secret Novel 'The Cuckoo's Calling'?

Jk Rowling Harry Potter

As the author of the Harry Potter series – possibly the best-known book franchise in the world – it’s difficult for J.K Rowling to pen a new story without intense scrutiny being placed upon it, long before its release. So it should come as little surprise that she’s been writing under a pseudonym.

It should also come as no surprise that as soon as that pseudonym became obsolete, the book went from selling well to topping the Amazon charts. The Cuckoo's Calling had sold already 1,500 copies before The Sunday Times blew the lid off this thing, propelling it to the summit of Amazon’s book chart.

Rare Harry Potter Book Sold For £150,000 Pounds: Who Bought It?

Jk Rowling Harry Potter

A rare first edition of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was auctioned off this Tuesday for the staggering price of 150 GBP, Reuters reports. According to auctioneer Sotheby’s the book is part of the smallest printed batch in the series – the first printing of "Philosopher’s Stone" was limited to just 500 books. However, this isn’t the only thing that makes the book special.

This particular copy was annotated by Rowling herself with notes, second thoughts and original drawings, revealing more of the author’s vision of the story. The bidding was intense and highly contested, but in the end it was an anonymous patron, bidding over the phone, who was willing to shell out the most to own a piece of the magic - 150 000 pounds ($227,421).

While it was the best seller, the book about the boy wizard wasn’t the only piece up for sale. The full collection, entitled “First Editions, Second Thoughts” featured 51 first editions in total. Other top sellers included Roald Dahl's "Matilda" with new illustrations by Quentin Blake for 30,000 pounds ($45,470), Kazuo Ishiguro's "The Remains of the Day" for 18,000 pounds ($27,278) and Julian Barnes' "Metroland" for 14,000 ($21,216). The sale will benefit the charity English PEN, which promotes freedom of expression. In the end, the complete collection went for 439,000 pounds or $665,410.

Emma Watson Mistaken For A Child At U.S Immigration In New York

Emma Watson Harry Potter

Harry Potter actress Emma Watson, 22, was stopped at U.S immigration in New York after being mistaken for a child. She was singled out by officials after landing at JFK airport and told she should be accompanied by an adult. The actress, who was wearing a school-style backpack, was eventually waved through, presumably after proving her age.

A source who spoke with the Sunday People said, "Emma was mortified. Not only did they not recognise her, they thought she was a child. It was very embarrassing but she managed to awkwardly laugh it off," adding, "The Americans are very serious about who they let in and out of their country. If young kids are thought to be travelling on their own it poses a massive problem." The British actress - one of the most recognisable stars on the planet - joked about the incident on Twitter, writing, "Passport control: 'Unaccompanied minor?' Me: 'Sorry?' Passport control: 'Where is ur guardian?' Me: 'I'm 22!!!!!!!' #neverwearingabackpackagain." She added, "The really sad thing is that this is not the first time this has happened."

Watson was returning to the United States where she is expected to continue her studies at Brown University, Rhode Island. She took two years out to work on a couple of high profile film projects, including Darren Aronofsky's Noah, with Russell Crowe and Anthony Hopkins.

The Casual Vacancy – Can JK Rowling’s Adult Novel Outsell Harry Potter?

Jk Rowling Harry Potter

Jk Rowling’s new book for adults, The Casual Vacancy went on sale yesterday (September 27, 2012). Rowling and her publishers may not have managed to whip up the same degree of hysteria that was achieved with the release of a new Harry Potter book but still, British readers still queued up outside bookstores as crates of the book were wheeled out ceremoniously at 8am.

So far, detail of The Casual Vacancy have been kept under wraps; review copies were not sent out and instead, an air of mystery surrounded Rowling’s new venture. Where children would dress up as their favourite Harry Potter characters to stand in line waiting for a first glimpse of the book, such behaviour was hardly appropriate here. Regardless of the lack of familiarity with the novel’s contents, JK Rowling is still pretty much guaranteed to land herself a slot in the bestsellers lists in the UK, the US and elsewhere – such is the potency of her reputation as a compelling author of fiction.

Whilst few are under any illusion that The Casual Vacancy will match the sales figures of the Harry Potter novels, there is still a quiet confidence that sales figures for the book will still sky-rocket. According to the Vancouver Sun, William Hill have already put “2/1 odds on it outselling Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which shifted 2.6 million copies in Britain on its first day.” The publication of this debut adult novel from Rowling has attracted an unprecedented degree of media coverage – which can’t harm the sales – and the world’s press will now be on tenterhooks for those early sales result.

Harry Potter Stars Start To Spread Their Wings

Jk Rowling Emma Watson Harry Potter

The Harry Potter franchise well and truly launched the career's of author Jk Rowling and actor Emma Watson, with both women gaining universal acclaim for their role in the seven-book and eight-film epic, but how is life treating them post-Potter?

Pretty well, we'd say. The creator of the Potter universe is set to take the literary world by storm with her new book (and this time it's for adults) The Casual Vacancy, with pre-orders hitting the roof. According to The Telegraph, Darren Hardy, books manager at online retailer Amazon, said: "JK Rowling is one of the most well-loved authors of all-time and there is a lot of anticipation ahead of the release of her new novel. We have seen a great deal of customer interest for 'Casual Vacancy' and, on the strength of pre-orders alone, it has featured in the Amazon.co.uk bestsellers list since it was announced. It's likely to be one of our bestselling books this Christmas."

Emma Watson, who portrayed the smart brave 'mudblood' Hermione Granger, has also faced a more adult reincarnation for new role in Perks of Being A Wallflower, which deals with themes of suicide and mental illness as opposed to potions lessons and butterbeer. Donning an American accent and depicting an entirely different character, Watson seems to have escaped her typecast wizardry role for now. Perks hit cinemas in the U.S last Friday (September 21), and The Casual Vacancy will be published worldwide on Thursday 27th September 2012.

JK Rowling Opposes Scottish Independence

Jk Rowling Harry Potter

Edinburgh-based Jk Rowling has admitted that come 2014, she will be voting against the country's proposed moved for independence from the United Kingdom and Great Britain.

The 2014 referendum will determine whether or not Scotland will stay as part of the Union and as a non-Scot living in Scotland the Harry Potter author is entitled to cast her vote on the matter. During a press conference for her new novel, The Casual Vacancy, the esteemed author very bluntly explained that she is "pro Union."

The author, originally from Yate in Gloucestershire, has a history of wearing her political allegiance on her sleeve, having donated to the UK Labour Party on a number of instances including one £1million donation in 2008, however this is the first time she has spoken on the controversial issue. At the same press conference she detailed her politic allegiance even further by damning the current Tory government, comparing the powers of Westminster to the same government that reigned at the beginning of the 1990's, thus taking a massive leap back in terms of how the under-classes are cared for by the government.

JK Rowling’s New Book Storms Pre-Order Charts

Jk Rowling Dan Brown E.L. James Harry Potter

Harry Potter author, Jk Rowling, has shot to the top of the pre-order charts with her upcoming book, The Casual Vacancy, reports The Telegraph.

Bookshops are expected to open early for the launch of the novel at 8am on Thursday and pre-orders at Waterstone’s are the highest of the year so far. A spokesman for the high-street bookseller said: “This is definitely the biggest launch of the year. Having said that, it is not in the league of Harry Potter, which is obviously a phenomenon that built up over a decade.” The real pull, though are the online pre-orders, and they’ve hit the roof. “We have seen a great deal of customer interest for ‘Casual Vacancy’ and, on the strength of pre-orders alone, it has featured in the Amazon.co.uk bestsellers list since it was announced. It’s likely to be one of our bestselling books this Christmas,” said Amazon’s books manager Darren Hardy.

In terms of adult books, of which this is Rowling’s first foray, Dan Brown leads the way: his novel The Lost Symbol sold 550,000 hardback copies in its first week. EL James’s Fifty Shades of Grey, which has sold 5.3 million copies in print and ebooks, will also be hard to beat, but given Rowling’s monolithic name in publishing; her Harry Potter franchise making her one of the richest women in the world, she’ll have the best chance of breaking those impressive sales records.

Harry Potter Author JK Rowling Selling Former Home For £2 Million

Harry Potter Jk Rowling

Harry Potter author Jk Rowling is selling her home in Edinburgh’s Merchiston area after moving to a new home in the city. The home in Merchiston is where the much-lauded children’s author created the Harry Potter characters for the long-running wizard stories (which spawned the globally successful Harry Potter movies and it has been her home for some thirteen years.

Rowling bought the top half of the house for £425,000 in 1999 following on from the success of the early Potter novels, before buying out her downstairs neighbour and reinstated the property into a detached family home some time after. The eight-bedroom property has been put on the market for £2,250,000. It features five double bedrooms, a drawing room, a timber-framed summerhouse, landscaped gardens and its own library as well as an impressive security system that the author had to put up when the house became something of a pilgrimage site for diehard fans.

Rowling, who is believed to be worth an estimated £560m, purchased her new home in Edinburgh for £2m in December 2009, moving into it permanently last year. She also owns an estate in Perthshire and a townhouse in London. Recently, the author won planning permission to build two giant tree houses for her children in the garden of the new property.

Radcliffe: I'll Be First Gay Bond!

Harry Potter Daniel Craig Daniel Radcliffe Equus James Bond Jk Rowling Prince Ron Weasley Rupert Grint

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe quipped that he could put a revolutionary new twist on the character of James Bond.

The 18-year-old actor was celebrating with fellow cast members after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was voted best film and Radcliffe named best male at the first ever National Movie Awards.

After beating sex symbol Daniel Craig to the best male award, Radcliffe was asked whether he'd like to one day take over as 007.

"It would be weird to suddenly be involved in another big franchise, but hey, it takes a big man to turn down Bond."

When quizzed as to who his ideal leading lady would be, he quipped that his top choice would be co-star Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies.

"I'm going to say Rupert," Radcliffe joked. "I'll be the first gay James Bond!"

But the young star – who is expected to reprise his critically-acclaimed performance in Equus on the Broadway stage – accepted that he might not have the goods to play the spy with a licence to kill.

"I don't think the world's ready for a short-a**e Bond," he moaned.

Questioned if he'd fancy playing the role in a decade, Radcliffe, only 5ft 5ins, admitted: "I'll still be a short a**e!"

Radcliffe is currently starring in Australian coming-of-age drama December Boys and is set to soon begin filming on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth feature in the Jk Rowling franchise.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix Review

Good

It's gotten to the point where the quality of the films don't really matter: Now I feel like I'm committed to the whole Harry Potter series. I've reviewed the first five now, so by golly, I'm going to stick it out and finish the lot... even though I still can't bring myself to read any of the books. As always, consider yourself warned that I don't know the intricate backstory developed over thousands of pages in J.K. Rowling's writing. And really, I'm happy to keep it that way.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix continues in the tradition of following another year at the Hogwarts School of Wizardry, where Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) has faced nothing but grueling struggle after grueling struggle. His most recent year (Goblet of Fire) saw a friend get killed by his nemesis, the evil Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), who's gaining more power every day and giving Harry severe nightmares. With few exceptions, his friends have largely abandoned him, and the new term comes with even more headaches in the form of Dolores Umbridge (the perfect Imelda Staunton), sent from the Ministry of Magic to teach the defense from the dark arts class and eventually taking over the school as an iron-fisted, fun-crushing bureaucrat.

After much pottering about (ha ha!), the film finally finds its groove as Umbridge goes too far, refusing to teach magic in the classroom, instead preferring to rely on theoretical knowledge so the students can pass their year-end standardized tests. With Voldemort approaching (this guy is always just around the corner), Harry becomes more nervous that he will be unable to defend himself, finally recruiting a handful of students to his cause to teach them what he knows about magical combat. Together they prepare for the day when they know they'll have to use those skills. (In case you haven't seen any of the first four movies, rest assured it isn't far off: This end-of-movie showdown between Harry and the forces of evil has almost become a cliché that pans out every single time.)

Good

Welcome back, Potter.

The beloved Harry Potter returns to screens, a scant year after his most debut, with the film version of book two in the unfathomably popular Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Unfortunately, while the Potter-obsessed will likely find few faults with the film, this sequel captures much less of the original's magic. (And while I've not read the books, I understand the same can be said for the second novel as well.)

Secrets finds Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) back at home with his Muggle family on summer vacation, locked in his room (though no longer under the stairs). Before long, Harry is set to return to Hogwarts -- despite the insistence from his uncle that he is no longer allowed to study magic. But a daring prison break, courtesy of the Weasley family -- including Harry's best bud Ron (Rupert Grint), gets Harry back to school, despite the meddling of a Yoda-like "house elf" named Dobby (very obvious CG). The masochistic Dobby tries to convince Harry that his life is in danger if he returns to Hogwarts -- though in reality his life appears more in danger due to Dobby's "helpful" meddling.

Harry of course does return to Hogwarts, where all his familiar experiences await him. Hermione (Emma Watson) is still the class brain. Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) is still the school clown. Snape (Alan Rickman) is still Snape. The new additions to the cast include a new Dark Arts professor, Gilderoy Lockhart (Kenneth Branagh), a narcissistic wizard with questionable ability, as well as the father of Harry's platinum blonde archrival Malfoy, Lucius (Jason Isaacs).

While the cast is still in fine form (the exception being a shockingly haggard Richard Harris as headmaster Dumbledore; Harris died a few weeks before the film's release), it's the story that is decidedly lacking in this episode. The titular Chamber of Secrets is a legendary room inside Hogwarts fabled to hold a menacing creature. It can only be opened, we're told, by an heir to the Slytherin family. When a mysterious message appears on the Hogwarts walls in blood, Harry begins hearing hissing voices, and students begin to turn up paralyzed. It appears the Chamber of Secrets has been opened -- and suspicions fall on Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) as the heir. Or is it Harry?

What follows is another nearly-three hours of exposition as Harry, Ron, and Hermione attempt to crack this riddle, Nancy Drew-style, while the body count at Hogwarts keeps rising. Mercilessly padded, the movie drags us through ages of all-too-familiar territory: a Quidditch match ends predictably; spells go awry; the trio works on a potion together; one-note characters appear only to say their line and soon exit the story. Finally, invariably first-on-the-scene Harry coincidentally discovers a blank diary -- it's amazing how much coincidence drives the plot -- that leads him on a circuitous path to discover the Chamber, just in time for a final showdown with what looks astonishingly like a miniature-golf hazard.

Jeez, I'm bored just writing about it. So much of Secrets is so unnecessary that my audience was way ahead of the circuitous yet ultimately very simplistic story. Kids spent the three hours running up and down the aisles -- only their parents had the fortitude to stay with the plot. That said, this installment is much funnier than the original, and it has a bit more of a grown-up sentiment to it. Still, it's going to take more than an ominous voice in the walls and a flying car to keep even the most patient adults interested in a three-hour movie.

Chamber of Secrets is enjoyable for many of its stretches, and it's unfortunate that director Chris Columbus (giving up the reins for episode 3) didn't take more chances with the source material, excising the many irrelevant parts and adding in a bit of his own vision. As such, we have a movie that plays out in fits and starts of fun alternating with boredom. Sad to say, the kids will probably want to leave midway through this one and ask you to replay the original on DVD when you get home. Poor Harry, when we see you again (in two years' time), I hope you'll have regained a bit of your magic.

As with Potter #1, the film comes to DVD in an exhaustive and impressive two-disc package, headlined by one of the most aggressive 6.1 channel audio tracks I've ever had the privilege to hear on DVD. This film thankfully makes it much easier to find the deleted/extended scenes, all of which are well worth checking out and add a bit of depth and flavor to an otherwise so-so movie. There are also tons of games for the kids and a few interviews for the adults, including one with J.K. Rowling.

Try putting right down the middle of the course.

Jk Rowling’s Net Worth Set To Explode With New Harry Potter Book

Jk Rowling Harry Potter

Jk Rowling has been steadily earning a fortune through her Harry Potter series. Well, let's not mince words - JK Rowling has made more money in the last 20 years than most people will make in their lifetime. Or in two lifetimes. Or five. What's more, is that this phenomenal achievement shows no signs of stopping, as the author has just added a further 36 million USD (20 million GBP) to her fortune - only 24 hours after the sixth book of the boy wizard series went on sale.

Harry Potter & The Chamber Of Secrets Review

Good

In his second big-screen outing, adolescent wizard Harry Potter is blessed with enough cinematic magic to overcome several of the very same problems that left last year's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" feeling a little protracted and rambling.

Sure "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" spends twice as much screen time on atmosphere and adventure scenes than on plot and character. But this time around every episode seems relevant, which is a vast improvement over last year's film, bloated as it was with Quidditch matches and monster moments that didn't advance the plot one iota.

Returning director Chris Columbus retains the enchanted ambiance as Harry heads to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for his second year of instruction in the black arts. But nothing is ever easy for our young hero, as unseen forces seem to be conspiring against him -- not the least of which is some kind of elusive beast that's loose in Hogwarts' halls, turning students to stone.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban Review

Very Good

Harry Potter is growing up, and so is his movie franchise.Under the tutelage of a new director -- Alfonso Cuarón, known for both children's fare (the 1995 remake of "A Little Princess") and an edgy, insightfully soulful, sex-charged teen road-trip flick ("Y Tu Mama, Tambien") -- the boy wizard has graduated from the world of kiddie movie spectacles with tie-in toys.

"Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" is a film in which depth of character, cunning humor and hair-raising chills come shining through the visual blitzkrieg of special effects -- which are also magnificently improved over the series first two installments. Case in point: a half-horse, half-eagle creature called a Hippogriff that gives "Lord of the Rings'" Gollum a run for his money as the most life-like CGI creation in cinema history.

Beyond just its detailed feathers (which fluff when it shakes) or its golden eyes (which bore holes in the screen with obstinate personality), this winged equine's every movement, from its canter to its peck, is a studied yet natural, amazingly fluid amalgam of the two beasts that were combined to create it.

Gandalf Vs Dumbledore - Sir Ian Mckellen Discusses Disagreement With Richard Harris

Ian McKellen Richard Harris Peter Jackson Derek Jacobi Kenneth Branagh Harry Potter

Legendary thespian and film star, Sir Ian McKellen, came under fire from the late Richard Harris several years ago when he landed the role of the wise but mischievous Gandalf in 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy. McKellen claims that Harris was furious for not being cast in Peter Jackson's fantasy epic, and this was exacerbated by McKellen being chosen over him.

Harris reportedly exploded at the rumour that McKellen would then take the role of Dumbledore as well in 2002 when Harris' health steadily began to fail. The actor explained: "Before Richard Harris died, there was an enquiry: would I be interested in playing in Harry Potter? And I said, 'Yes, certainly'. But I've not heard anything since."
