Hank Williams Jr has attempted to clarify remarks he made about President Barack Obama and Adolf Hitler. The country singer-songwriter compared the President to the fascist tyrant while making an analogy on the Fox morning show 'Fox and Friends', reports Reuters.
Appearing on the show to discuss his preferred candidate for the Republican Presidential nomination, Williams quickly turned his attention to President Obama's recent round of golf with Republican speaker John Boehner, saying, "The golf game they had? That was one of the biggest political mistakes ever ... It'd be like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu". The controversial remarks led to sports network Espn dropping Williams' long time theme tune from their Monday night football show. The singer's "Are you ready for some football?" anthem has been a staple on the programme for twenty years. In a statement defending his remarks, Hank explained, "I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me. They're polar opposites and it made no sense ... I have always respected the office of the president" Espn were less than impressed with the singer's analogy, saying, "We are extremely disappointed with his comments and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast".
Williams, a Republican supporter, reworked his song 'We Are Young Country' to 'This is Bush-Cheney Country' for the 2000 Presidential election.
