Halle Berry, the OSCAR winning actress and star of 'Die Another Day' and 'X-Men', says she would not be able to take on the role of Aretha Franklin in a planned biopic because she cannot sing, reports E! News. During a recent interview with Wendy Williams, Franklin was asked who she would like to play her in the rumoured movie, to which she replied that Berry would be "her pick".
Back in 1998, the actress played the singer ZOLA TAYLOR in the movie 'Why Do Fools Fall in Love' but in response to Franklin's comments she said, "If I could carry a tune, I'd consider it. Someone should tell Aretha that I can't do her justice". The Queen of Soul confirmed that the movie now looks to be going ahead but admitted that producers are still on the hunt for a lead actress, she said, "For the last four years, we've been talking about the film, and I have had a number of offers. Unfortunately, they were not good offers. Now, we have something on the table. They have all of the financing on one project. and are in the process of writing things for me to approve. Halle Berry is my pick".
Berry's reluctance to take the role may have more to do with her hectic schedule for 2011. She is set to star in no less than five movies, including the thriller 'Dark Tide' with Olivier Martinez and the romantic-comedy 'New Year's Eve' with Robert De Niro as well as an adaptation of David Mitchell's acclaimed novel 'Cloud Atlas'.
