The 'True Grit' actress will team up with returning cast members Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow for the forthcoming sequel, which will mark co-star Elizabeth Banks' directorial debut.
According to Empire, although specific details are being kept under wraps, Steinfeld is reportedly set to take on a role that would allow her to continue the franchise in future should Kendrick decide to move on.
The original film, which was released in 2012, focused on a college freshman (Kendrick) who reluctantly leads an a cappella group called the Bellas to the finals.
It was a surprise hit and over-performed in the box office, grossing over $115 million worldwide.
The soundtrack also proved popular, going platinum with over 1 million copies sold and single 'Cups' selling almost 3 million units.
Kay Cannon, who adapted the first film from Mickey Rapkin's original book, is scripting the sequel.
