Gwyneth Paltrow and her actress mum Blythe Danner agreed to appear together in new movie SYLVIA, so they could help each other cope with the loss of the blonde beauty's dad BRUCE.

Danner admits it was tough taking on work so soon after the death of producer Bruce Paltrow in October 2002 - but she saw it as a good opportunity to bond with Paltrow.

The 60-year-old actress, who plays the mother of Paltrow's character, poet SYLVIA PLATH, says, "It was a very difficult time. We are such a close family and Gwyneth was incredibly fond of her father. But his death brought us even closer.

"It was a highly emotional period for us. Bruce had only passed away a few months before the director Christine Jeffs, had approached me to play Sylvia's mother.

But I think going to New Zealand to film - getting far, far away from all that was familiar - was wonderful. Gwyneth and I had some valuable time together."
