Gwyneth Paltrow plays an alcoholic musician in her new movie, 'Country Strong', reports the UK's Daily Mail. The 37-year-old actress who is married to one of world's most famous frontmen, Coldplay'S CHRIS MARTIN, plays 'Kelly Canter' in the new film about a faded country singer. It's not the first time Paltrow has tried her hand at a music role, in 2000 she showed off her surprisingly impressive voice in 'Duets'.
Paltrow will be hoping to emulate the success of Jeff Bridges, who won the ACADEMY AWARD for 'Best Actor' at the 2010 OSCARS for his portrayal of a washed-up country musician in 'Crazy Heart'. However, 'Country Strong' is Paltrow's first leading role since playing the daughter of a mathematician in the 2005 film 'Proof', and despite her critically acclaimed performance, the movie was not a commercial success.
In her new film, which is set for release on 7th January 2011, Kelly Canter befriends up-and-coming singer songwriter Beau Williams, played by Garrett Hedlund, and the pair embark on a tour together, accompanied by Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester, whose character is also looking to break into the music industry.
