Gwen Stefani has rubbished reports she's quitting American rockers No Doubt - insisting she's treating her solo career as a "side project".

The DON'T SPEAK singer is currently writing material for her debut solo album and has already lined up Missy Elliott to perform on it.

But Gwen, 34, refuses to let the record steer her away from her main occupation, which is to sing for No Doubt.

She says, "We're calling mine a side project, because I'm not going anywhere.

"It's taken me out of my comfort zone, but it's awesome to do what we want to do and step out of ourselves."
