A top-selling video game can easily outsell the most successful Hollywood blockbuster in the U.K. during its first day of release, according to a report by Britain's Sky News. Keith Ramsdale, head of Electronic Arts' Northern Europe region, told the TV news service that the soccer-themed FIFA 13 sold 1.2 million units on the first day of its launch two weeks ago. That's a =A350 million [$80 million] revenue to the U.K. economy. By contrast, it has taken Skyfall, which has just set a box office record in the U.K. for a first-week gross, ten days to hit $85.8 million. That's why I think you're seeing a big mainstream, why big [stars] are very interested in this industry, Ramsdale said. Sky News observed that the latest TV and online ads for the Electronic Arts' game Call Of Duty: Black Ops II, which stars Robert Downey Jr., were directed by British A-list filmmaker Guy Ritchie. Ritchie told the news service, My son's a massive 'Call Of Duty' fan -- so in order to win some credibility points with my son I've ended up here. Also I was drawn to it because technically it's very challenging. Besides Downey, such stars as Kiefer Sutherland and Gary Oldman are also appearing in the videogame.
