Fantasy movie PAN'S LABYRINTH has received 12 nominations for the 49th Ariel Awards in Mexico, including Best Picture and Best Director for Guillermo Del Toro. The Spanish-language film is also nominated for Best Cinematography, while Maribel Verdu is up for Best Actress at the ceremony at Mexico City's Palace Of Fine Arts on 20 March (07). A total of 11 Mexican movies will fight for Ariel Awards. Facing Pan's Labyrinth in the Best Picture category is CHRONICLES, directed by SEBASTIAN CORDERO and produced by Del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron, and FRANCISCO VARGAS' THE VIOLIN. Both filmmakers are also nominated as Best Director. The Violin has seven nominations, while Chronicles has picked up six.
