Country newcomer Gretchen Wilson and Brad Paisley were the big winners at last night's (11APR05) CMT MUSIC AWARDS in Nashville, Tennessee, claiming two prizes apiece.

Wilson picked up the Breakthrough Video award for REDNECK WOMAN and then doubled her winnings by beating out her peers to claim the Female Video prize for WHEN I THINK ABOUT CHEATIN'.

Meanwhile, Paisley's WHISKEY LULLABY earned him the Collaborative Video Prize, along with an absent Alison Krauss, and former NYPD BLUE star RICK SHRODER, who directed and starred in the promo, claimed the Video Director of The Year honours.

The video awards also served up honours for Toby Keith, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Tim Mcgraw and Loretta Lynn, who picked up the night's CMT JOHNNY CASH Visionary Award for her career achievements at the Gaylord Entertainment Center event.

The country queen was left tearful by a series of touching video messages from Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, Elvis Costello and actress Sissy Spacek, who played her in biopic Coal Miner's Daughter.

The show suffered from a handful of sound problems, but still brought out the stars for live sets - these included performances from McEntire, KENNY CHESNEY, Heart, BIG + RICH, Alan Jackson and Trisha Yearwood, who surprised the audience with an unannounced appearance, ending a lengthy hiatus from country music.
