She began her Hollywood career in 1952, appearing in the big screen adaptation of The Member of The Wedding, and later played James Dean's love interest in the film version of East of Eden, and had a role in the 1988 drama Gorillas in the Mist. File Photo** * KAREN BLACK LOSES CANCER BATTLE Actress KAREN BLACK has lost her battle with cancer. The 74-year-old Easy Rider star passed away on Thursday (08Aug13) in Los Angeles, according to her husband Stephen Eckelberry, who broke the sad news on his Facebook.com page. In a post he writes, "It is with great sadness that I have to report that my wife and best friend, Karen Black has just passed away, only a few minutes ago. Thank you all for all your prayers and love, they meant so much to her as they did to me." Black was diagnosed with ampullary cancer in November 2010, a rare form of the disease which affects the bile duct, and she had one-third of her pancreas removed. She went public with her health battle in 2012 and in March (13) launched an appeal to help fund her treatment on fundraising website Kickstarter.com, which managed to smash its 7,000 (£10,000) target. Black earned an Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nomination for 1970 movie Five Easy Pieces, for which she also won a Golden Globe and a New York Film Critics Award for her portrayal of waitress Rayette Dipesto. She also starred in movies including The Great Gatsby (1974) and Nashville (1975). ** * LAURYN HILL CHECKS INTO PRISON R&B star LAURYN HILL has checked into prison to begin a three-month sentence for tax evasion. The former Fugees singer pleaded guilty to three charges of failing to file her tax returns between 2005 and 2007 last year (12) and on Monday (08Jul13) the singer was booked at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, where she will serve out her punishment, according to TMZ.com. After completing her stint behind bars, the star will spend a further three months under house arrest and nine months on supervised release. Meanwhile, the Grammy winner has already taken steps to rectify her financial problems - earlier this year (13) she paid off more than 00,000 (£562,000) in back taxes to settle her debts. (MC/WNWCZM/KL) ** WENN PICTURE CAPTION 19 AUGUST 2004 ============================================= ========================= THE RE-INVENTION OF LAURYN HILL - FUNKY NEW LOOK FOR SOUL DIVA! ============================================= ============== Judging by the colour of her natty new slacks, it seems Lauryn Hill is set for a purple reign in 2005! The soul star - whose first big break came when she starred alongside Whoopi Goldberg in the movie Sister Act 2 - was most definitely 'Back in the Habit' yesterday as she strutted her funky stuff around New York's trendy Meatpacking district on the set of her new video. Sporting a cool new retro seventies image, she looks resplendent with flair-collared Mack, vivid make-up and an afro-hairdo. The ex-Fugees singer, who won two Grammys for her 1998 debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, has not released any new music since her live Unplugged double-album two years ago. Rumours have abounded of a Fugees reunion with fellow members Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel. Whilst Fugees fans may remain disappointed on that score, they will certainly

The former Fugees frontwoman will spend a further three months under house arrest and nine months on supervised release once she is freed from federal prison. At a hearing on Monday (05May13), a judge in Newark, New Jersey, ordered Hill to report to prison by 8 July (13), reports TMZ.com. The ruling came just one day after Hill's lawyer confirmed the star had paid off more than 00,000 (£562,000) in tax debts and penalties. Last year (12), the singer pleaded guilty to three charges of failing to file her tax returns between 2005 and 2007. During the hearing, Hill handed a bizarre statement to the judge, in which she compared her situation to slavery. It read: "I was put into a system I didn't know the nature of... I'm a child of former slaves. I got into an economic paradigm and had that imposed on me. She added, "I sold 50 million units... (and) now I'm up here paying a tax debt. If that's not likened to slavery, I don't know what is." (PAW/WNWCZM/KL) The Fugees performing at the Carling Apollo Featuring: Lauryn Hill Where: London, United

Rapper Eve at G A Y - London United Kingdom - Saturday 8th June 2013

***File Photo* Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown has reportedly been evicted from her apartment in Georgia. The 20 year old and her boyfriend, Nick Gordon, were allegedly booted from the property following a series of noise complaints from neighbour Joshua Morse - and the youngster made sure to give him and his wife a piece of her mind by leaving a nasty note on their doorstep on Tuesday (04Jun13). The message, which Morse posted on his Facebook.com page, reads: "Thanks... You are s**t at the bottom of our shoe. Thank You for making a hard year harder. "You are a miserable couple and always will be. You were honored to have us living above you and you couldn't stand such a young beautiful couple far more successful than you ever will be. I pray your misery doesn't rub off on your innocent little baby." Morse, who has filed an official complaint about the rude note with the Alpharetta Police Department, tells local news station 11 Alive he had filed at least 10 different complaints against Brown, whose apartment was directly above his, and she has since handed in her keys and moved out of the complex. Houston's daughter with Bobby Brown has been struggling to deal with the loss of her superstar mum, who drowned in the bathtub of her Los Angeles hotel on the eve of last year's (12) Grammy Awards. She recently paid tribute to the I Will Always Love You hitmaker as she marked her 20th birthday in March (13), writing on her Instagram.com page, "I pray I'm growing into the phenomenal woman you always knew I'd become mommy, I love you and miss you immensely and I always will. "You are my heart. You are my life. You are my everything. You are my motivation. You are me. I am you. We are one. Forever and always. I love you my lady."
