2D takes us on a very Gorillaz comedown with the new single Sleeping Powder - obviously, knowing our favourite virtual band, the tempo doesn't remain that way for long and it develops into slightly more familiar territory.
Sleeping Powder is a standalone track and isn't one of the many singles from their latest album. The song is available through the Gorilla app.
It's been a busy few months for Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett (his visual creative partner in crime) as the band released its fifth studio album 'Humanz' at the end of April. Being a virtual creation, each single release requires a huge amount of work - plus the band have their Demon Dayz festival taking place this weekend at Margate's Dreamland which features co-ordinated footage of the virtual band alongside their reality based colleagues. It's been announced that the entire concert will be streamed live via RedBull TV and you can access that via their app.
As has become their style, Humanz is packed to the rafters will collaborations (Vince Staples, Mavis Staples, De La Soul and Snoop Dogg to name a few) and it's thought that a number of the musicians who contributed will come along to the event to perform their parts - even if there are collaborators missing, viewers are sure to be treated to an extraordinary event.
Earlier this month, Russell and 2D spoke about their latest creation and were asked what iconic film they'd compare 'Humanz' to, 2D's response is pretty telling about the overall theme of the record: "Maybe Brazil [Terry Gilliam's 1985 dystopian fantasy]. On the surface it's quite fast-paced and seems light-hearted, but it's actually a really dark fantasy about a scary new future." I'm not sure we're going to see an armoured flying Murdoc, (a la Jonathan Pryce), anytime soon but you never know!
The band will also be preparing themselves for Glastonbury Festival as they're set to headline the infamous Pyramid Stage at the end of the month.
