Its been nearly four years since we’ve seen an album from the guys in Good Charlotte, but that’s about to change. Kind of. It was announced this week that Benji and Joel Madden would be releasing a new record, but not under the Good Charlotte name. The aptly named The Madden Brothers will be unveiling their debut album for the new project, Greetings From California…, on October 7 via Capitol Records. Its lead single, 'We Are Done,' is set to come out on June 2 where it will be accompanied with a lyric video.

While The Madden Brothers isn’t exactly an entirely new project, it’s the first time that the public is seeing a proper release. Plans for a record surfaced as early as January 2012 where the brothers were hoping to have it out by that summer, but nothing ever came of it. After the mixtape that they dropped a year before, titled Before The Fame: The Madden Brothers, it got you wondering if an album would sound anything similar. The eleven track compilation featured hip-hop collaborations with the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Kreyshawn, and Machine Gun Kelly.

However, the actual full-length may be taking a different route. "It’s been a cool break from the norm for us and the Madden Brothers record is quite different from the mixtape in a lot of ways, and similar in other ways," Joel Madden told Rolling Stone in 2012. He went on to say that it’s definitely a rock record, but nothing like what you’d find in Good Charlotte, and as more details have been pouring out recently, it seems like that may be true.

According to a press release, the album will be split into two sides: one is filled with upbeat and sunny pop-rock numbers produced by long-time collaborator Eric Valentine. Although it’s allegedly not going to sound like Good Charlotte, Valentine was responsible for producing the band’s breakout 2002 record, The Young and The Hopeless. The second side, on the other hand, is an “earthy blend of folk, Southern rock, and '70s-era FM pop.” Joe Chiccarelli, who in the past has worked with The White Stripes, The Strokes, and The Shins, will be producing that batch of songs. The second side is backed by a track called 'California Rain,' which was co-written with the help of music mogul Pharrell Williams.

Greetings From California… sounds like it has the potential to be Benji and Joel’s finest offering yet, especially considering Good Charlotte’s recent track record. Their last album, Cardiology, was one of the band’s worst debuts of their career, as it landed at number 31 on the charts in its first week. Additionally, its been rumored that actress Cameron Diaz is dating Benji, while Joel has been busy coaching on Australia’s version of ‘The Voice.’ The brothers have also lended a hand in writing for other artists, as they’ve contributed to a song on 5 Seconds of Summer’s upcoming album. Its clear that all is well in the world of The Madden Brothers -- and Greetings From California… is just the icing on the cake.
