Screen veteran Goldie Hawn credits the obstacles she has had to overcome with helping her finally find joy and inner peace.

The Private Benjamin beauty, who has recently written her autobiography A LOTUS GROWS IN THE MUD, happily looks back on her eventful life because every single experience has taught her to become a better person.

Hawn, 59, tells the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, "The lotus is a very beautiful flower, one that connotes inner wisdom and beauty. It only grows in the mud, so its roots have to be fed by dark, dirty, stinky mud.

"It's through obstacles and through things that aren't great that people learn and gain wisdom and joy."
