Singer Glen Campbell has been released from jail today (25NOV03) on $2,000 (GBP1,250) bail after being arrested on suspicion of "extreme" drink-driving.

The WICHITA LINEMAN country star was arrested after leaving the scene of a car accident, and also stands accused of aggravated assault on a police officer, after allegedly kneeing a detective in the thigh at the station in Phoenix, Arizona.

Although he wasn't formally charged with the offence, Campbell posted the bond in connection with the accusations.

No one was injured in the two-car crash yesterday (24NOV03), but Campbell left the scene in his BMW, and was caught by police at a house in the Biltmore area home after being following there by a witness.

Phoenix police sergeant RANDY FORCE says, "Officers contacted the driver of that BMW who was Glen Campbell. Based on his appearance and demeanour, they believed he was intoxicated and took him into custody."

Campbell, 67, made an appearance before a judge last night (24NOV03), and told a waiting reporter he was "OK".
