Glastonbury Festival goers were warned to "prepare for rape" by a subtitle blunder during the weather report on BBC News at Ten. The weatherman told the audience to "prepare for rain" but the caption instead read, "prepare for rape".

A BBC spokeswoman was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "We try to ensure our subtitling is as accurate as possible but there are occasions when mistakes inevitably occur.

"On this occasion the result was this unfortunate typo which was corrected as soon as possible."

Canadian rockers Arcade Fire headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday night, before the controversial booking Metallica entertain on Saturday. Leicester indie band Kasabian will close the festival on Sunday night.

Around 175,000 music fans are set to attend the festival in Pilton, Somerset, though the weather forecast looks ominous. Heavy downpours are predicted on Thursday and a potential mudbath on Friday. However, the heavens will have to truly open for it to be as wet as 2005, when flash flooding left some areas of the festival unreachable.

Louise Lear from BBC Weather said conditions will worsen after a reasonably pleasant start.

"If you're going to be putting up a tent in a field, then probably the conditions will be perfect. The ground is not too hard or too soft at the moment, and it should stay dry into the evening," she said.

"But by Friday it looks as though the rain, some of it quite heavy, will arrive."
