Alyssa Campanella, the 21-year-old model from Los Angeles, was crowned the new Miss USA on Sunday evening (19th June 2011). Formerly 'Miss California', Campanella stormed to victory in the annual contest after confidently answering questions from hosts Giuliana Rancic and ANDY COHEN, reports USA Today.
One of the 'personal facts' Alyssa revealed during the show was that she is "a huge history buff", admitting she enjoyed the recent drama series 'Game Of Thrones', starring Sean Bean. The 21-year-old also admitted, "I'm obsessed with the Tudor and Stuart era. Whenever I go to Barnes and Noble, I'm in the history section. That is where you'll find me. I'm a huge history buff". As well as her love for 'Game of Thrones', Miss USA also revealed, "I watch Camelot. But I also watch The Tudors. I'm a huge history geek". The Los Angeles native fended off stiff competition from 51 other contestants on Sunday night, wowing judges with a green flared dress during the evening gown competition. In the question and answer round, Campanella responded confidently when asked for her stance on the legalisation of marijuana. The 21-year-old said she was uncomfortable with the idea, but believed the drug to be medically beneficial. She will now compete in the 'Miss Universe Pageant' scheduled to take place in Sao Paolo, Brazil, on 12th September 2011.
The 60th Annual Miss USA Pageant took place at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino and featured appearances from reality star Kelly Osbourne and the 2003 'Miss USA', SUSIE CASTILLO.
