Giles Deacon says his pre-fall/winter 2012-13 collection reflects the "yin and yang" of his personality.

The British fashion designer - best known for his quirky designs and his collaboration with High Street retailer New Look - has revealed his latest range has two sides to it, just like him. .

Giles told vogue.co.uk: "We've gone for that balance of well-made chic clothing with a little bit of quirkiness. I know people have found us to have been a little too jokey before, so we're working on a cross-section of the two. It's a yin and yang thing, which reflects the two sides of my personality. I like dark elegance as much as I like playfulness."

Giles says the collection reflects his signature aesthetic and includes tailor pencil skirts, voluminous skirts, bright pyjama-style suits and structured, feminine jackets.

He said: "It's a step on from last season definitely - that pulled together beautiful hautiness teamed but with a slight subversiveness. You can see that from the gold popper button and prints."

The sartorialist also explained that pre-collections are more important today than ever before.

He said: "The quality of pre collections has changed a lot - they used to typically be rather small ranges with a few knits, but that's not the case anymore. The level of competition is a lot harder, so those pieces need to really special and unique. You need to work hard for those sales."
