Ghost Beach 2014 Promo

Ghost Beach are set to bring some incredibly catchy indie-pop vibes to the UK with the release of their much-anticipated debut album 'Blonde'.

The New York duo formed in 2012 and immediately caused an online buzz with their first releases, including their self-titled debut EP and their 'Modern Tongues' EP. Since then, they have topped the Hype Machine charts with every single they've released so far and, to be quite honest, it doesn't look like that personal best is going to weaken any time soon.

Their new single 'Been There Before' is a summery, energetic, hook-laden epic of a tune that will be released at the same time as the album later this month after the twosome (who are Josh Ocean and Eric 'Doc' Mendelsohn) recently signed to Nettwerk Records in the UK. They've been likened to such artists as MGMT, Yeasayer, M83 and even Vampire Weekend with their nostalgic retro sound mixed with a modern, upbeat, synth-laden buzz. If you're struggling to describe it, you need not worry because Ghost Beach have done that already, dubbing their sound Tropical Grit Pop.

'We like writing pop music', Josh has previously revealed. 'We draw a lot from the 80s including Peter Gabriel, The Police and Talking Heads.' Doc mentions that the use of synthesizers and drum machines in the songs of these artists were of particular inspiration. 'Today we attempt to bridge the gap by using a similar sonic palette in combination with modern recording technologies including Ableton', he says.

Another allusion to the retro feel is in the name; 'Ghost Beach' is taken from the 90s children's horror book series 'Goosebumps' by R. L. Stine, which only adds to that nostalgic echo we felt in 'Been There Before'.

With the album 'Blonde' ever nearing, Ghost Beach have certainly upped the hype with their recent return to SXSW Festival after an incredible series of gigs in 2013. This year they performed at the Nettwerk Records Party, the Binary Records Party and even joined the likes of Wolf Alice and Coin at the All Things Go & Indie Shuffle Present showcase. They're not through with festivals at the moment, however, as they will be hitting the Harvey Milk Festival in Florida this May and Delaware's Firefly Music Festival in June - the latter of which features a line-up topped by Foo Fighters, Outkast and Jack Johnson. Until then, they'll be making their way across the rest of North America on their Spring tour.

'Blonde' will be released in the UK on March 24th 2014.
