French actor Gerard Depardieu has come under fire from organisers at the Edinburgh Film Festival in Scotland after skipping the weekend (28-29Jun14) premiere of his new movie following a boozy night out.
The Green Card star had been expected to walk the red carpet at the British launch of Welcome to New York - a drama based on the former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn's 2011 sex scandal, but Depardieu was a no-show at Saturday's (28Jun14) event.
His absence occurred hours after he had been photographed visiting bars on the Isle of Skye - a short plane ride away from Edinburgh - on Friday night (27Jun14), when he took advantage of his visit and sampled the wide variety of Scottish whisky on offer.
The actor subsequently pulled out of attending the Welcome to New York premiere at the last minute, angering festival bosses.
A spokesperson tells the Edinburgh News, "He has let the festival down very badly. We won't be pursuing this any further because the screening has already taken place - but there is some annoyance here."
