Country star GEORGE STRAIT has ended rock's run at the top of the US album charts with his third number one on the list.

Strait's new album, SOMEWHERE DOWN IN TEXAS, sold 245,000 copies in its opening week to end Coldplay's three week stint at number one.

The British group's X+Y fell to number three on the new chart as rappers Ying Yang Twins' fourth album UNITED STATE OF ATLANTA debuted at number two.

Meanwhile, there was some good news for hip-hop star Cassidy, who is preparing to fight a murder rap - his new album I'M AHUSTLA (corr) debuted at number five.
