The British singer-songwriter shot to the top of the charts in June 2014 with the record, which includes the hit singles 'Money On My Mind' and 'Stay With Me', before returning to the top spot in September and no once again re-claiming that marker. The multi-platinum release has now had five weeks at the top according to the latest count.

Meghan Trainor Tops UK Chart With Catchy Single "All About That Bass"

Meghan Trainor George Ezra Sam Smith

Meghan Trainor’s latest single, All About That Bass – you know, the one you haven’t been able to get out of your head for a month now – has reached No. 1 in the UK charts. The song’s first week out in full release saw it shoot straight for the top of the UK chart, just like it did in the US a month prior.

Meghan Trainor
Trainor's celebration of curves shot her to chart success in the UK and US charts.

Fun fact: according to Billboard, All About That Bass is the first UK chart topper to get there entirely on streaming plays (well, mostly on streaming plays, anyway). Streams of 1.17 million saw it rise 53-33, and after its full release, raced to No. 1 on the Official Charts Company’s new data Sunday (Oct. 5). Its combined sales in the first week come out to 144,000 with 1,4 million streaming plays accounting for about over 9% of the aggregated tally (that means there’s a bit of math involved, so let’s not get too bogged down.)

UK Charts Now Count Streaming, Ariana Grande Wins On Own Turf

Ariana Grande Iggy Azalea Ella Henderson George Ezra Ed Sheeran

As of this week, Ariana Grande can chalk up another achievement – her single Problem isthe first UK Number One in the Official Singles Chart based on sales as well as streaming data.

Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande's Problem is the first UK Number 1 that got there through streaming.

This is the very first week when streaming data was counted, with the idea of providing a more accurate picture of the actual popularity of a single. The streaming data is taken from services like Spotify, Napster, Deezer, O2 Tracks, Music Unlimited (Sony’s service) and Xbox music and added to the count, with 100 plays being equal to one physical or digital purchase.

George Ezra - Budapest Single Review

George Ezra is a British singer-songwriter from Hertford who has been doing exceedingly well over the last year, having played Glastonbury in 2013 and come in fifth place for BBC's 'Sound Of.2014'. Now, his new single 'Budapest' has been certified platinum in Italy. So what's so good about George Ezra and 'Budapest'?

George Ezra - Budapest Single Review

The track stars with a gentle but firm guitar riff that remains more less the same throughout, with the exception of a few notes changing here and there. It establishes it as a good, but straightforward folk song. When Ezra's voice comes in, it's startling; his vocals are soothing, but also butch and pleasantly bluesy. While it by no means steps out of folk territory, you're expecting his voice to be a lot tamer, due to the few seconds of guitar that precedes it. His singing proceeds to be the main driving force for the song, as the strings aren't overly noticeable and there are minimal drums. It's impressive how Ezra can elevate the tune in the chorus. When he seemingly restrains a roar singing 'Give me one good reason why I should never make a change', the song intensely increases in power. Not because of a dramatic chord change or louder drums, just because Ezra's vocals strengthen.

As for the lyrics of 'Budapest', they're good. Not amazing, but nowhere near bad. They are mainly telling the story of a man willing to sacrifice everything for someone he loves. This obviously isn't the most original lyrical theme ever, however it's quite sweet and the sincerity comes through in Ezra's voice. The best example of this is, 'My friends and family, they don't understand, they fear they'd lose so much if you took my hand, but for you, you, I'd lose it all' which one can interpret as people close to him worrying about his relationship with the track's subject matter, yet he disregards their warnings - something many people can relate to.

The Great Escape Festival 2014: Which Bands Shone Brightest?

Brighton's Great Escape Festival took place over the weekend and, as the UK's largest street festival, gave music fans a very enjoyable weekend as it does every year. Over 400 acts played, giving the punters chance to see plenty of acts; be it established acts such as Example, These New Puritans, Pulled Apart By Horses and Twin Atlantic, or newer artists such as Gnarwolves, Big Ups, Circa Waves, Prides, MØ and Brawlers. This gave the festival goers a chance to see some old favourites, as well as check out the new talent.

Nu-rave heroes Klaxons played a secret show on Thursday at midnight in The Warren, a 400 capacity venue, giving their fans a chance to see them in a smaller setting than usual. Klaxons expressed their love of the festival, saying that they enjoyed coming as fans just to see bands. They're especially keen on the intimacy of the festival: 'They've got people right in front of your face; it's brilliant, the connection. You can look people in the eye and they're not miles away'. The band played a mixture of both old songs and new ones that they haven't had chance to play live yet. Co-vocalist and keyboardist James Righton showed his enthusiasm for the new songs saying he couldn't wait to play 'Show Me A Miracle'.

BBC Unveil The 'Sounds Of 2014' Longlist

It's that time of year again, time for the BBC to poll who it thinks we will all be listening to this time next year. You might be familiar with some of the names, others you might not be so knowledgable about, but they are all names that the broadcasting house has earmarked for success over the next twelve months.

Sam Smith
Sam Smith is one of the favourites for the contest

In the past, victors have included Adele, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J and last year's winners, Haim, and once again the list is predominantly pop-based, but there are some notable exceptions. Soloists such as Ella Eyre and Sam Smith appear on the list, having already found notable fame for their guest appearances on other artists' tracks. 21-year-old Smith appeared on Naughty Boy's chart-topper 'La La La' and Disclosure's 'Latch,' whilst Eyre found success as a featured vocalist on Rudimental's hit 'Waiting All Night.'
