Residents of a Berkshire village near the town of Reading are divided over the presence of George and Amal Clooney as their neighbours – even though the couple are yet to move in!

The power couple purchased a £10 million dream mansion in the village of Sonning Eye and were due to move in at the end of July when extensive renovation work had been completed. However, it seems as if that work is going to have to go on for a lot longer than initially anticipated – and that’s upsetting quite a few of their neighbours.

“Half the locals love having a celebrity in town, others think he's the worst neighbour you could have,” an unidentified inhabitant of the village told The Sun. “The construction's been going on for months and will be lucky to finish before the year is out.”

Construction at the site, which by the looks of a recently taken aerial photograph is far from being completed, littered as it is with skips, temporary fencing, scaffolding and portaloos, has been delayed. The noise from machinery being used is apparently upsetting residents, even disturbing rehearsals at the Mill theatre in the village.

Architects were reportedly told to put in place special flood defences in case the nearby river Thames bursts its banks, in addition to environmental concerns about the possible presence of natural habitats for bats, otters etc. in the vicinity.

When it is eventually completed, the massive property will reportedly include a boathouse with a private mooring, a river house with its own lounge, a 15 metre swimming pool and a small cinema.
