George Clooney and Julia Roberts are combining their superstar power to take legal action against the owners of two electronic companies accused of using their names and likeness to promote their products.
The Hollywood actors are suing Digital Projection, Inc. and Beyond Audio bosses to protect their intellectual property rights after photos of the pair allegedly appeared on the business' websites, brochures and newsletters.
Court papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (27Apr12), and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, state: "Defendants prominently used large photographs of Plaintiffs in Defendants' advertising, marketing and promotions including print advertisements published in numerous magazines over the past several months.
"Accordingly, Defendants are liable to Plaintiffs for the infringement of their publicity rights, privacy rights, and trademark rights."
Clooney and Roberts are demanding unspecified compensatory damages, in addition to punitive damages and attorneys' fees. They are also seeking an injunction to prevent the firms from using their names and images in future.
