Big-hearted actor George Clooney has donated ten scooters to Italian emergency services to help them in their difficult task.

The Solaris heart-throb, who has a home on the European country's lake Como, bought specially-equipped bikes for Rome's emergency services, which should help them beat the city's notorious traffic.

He says, "You can't get a car through those streets, so when traffic's bad people are dying because they can't get an ambulance. These little scooters equipped with defibrillators will make a big difference.

"Sometimes raising money for a charity can be frustrating because you don't get to see the result - you just sort of raise money. With this you do."
