Rock legend Gene Simmons has criticised Super Bowl bosses for hiring Madonna to headline the huge sporting event next year (12), dismissing the pop superstar as a "karaoke singer".
The Material Girl will team up with world-renowned circus act Cirque Du Soleil to play the big game's mid-point spectacular in February (11), following in the footsteps of Tom Petty, Sir Paul MCCartney, The Who and Bruce Springsteen.
However, Kiss star Simmons is adamant only real rockers should be allowed to play the prestigious gig.
He tells Tmz.com, "I love all karaoke singers. I like all the girl singers who get up and sing with (pre-recorded) tapes.
"By the way, Madonna's terrific. I (just) hate the tapes. I hate dancers... I don't think it's appropriate, but that doesn't matter. If you're going to get up, do it real. Do a real band or tell everybody it's a tape."
