Review of What Doesn't Kill You, Eventually Kills You Album by Gay For Johnny Depp

Every now and then, a band comes along who leave you speechless and completely clueless as to how you should go about reviewing them. Gay for Johnny Depp are such a band.

Gay For Johnny Depp What Doesn't Kill You, Eventually Kills You Album

A part of me wants to give What Doesn't Kill You, Eventually Kills You a fantastic review just for being almost completely insane. The songs are sub-two minute blasts of total noise with absurd titles like "She Has the Hottest Limp", "Humility is for People Who Don't Comprehend Their Own Mortality" and - a title worthy of awards itself - "No, I'm Married to Jesus. Now Keep Your Fucking Hands Off of Him". But when you strip away the shock value, there really is very little of any substance on offer here. It speaks volumes that the best (and perhaps only real) song "Cum On Feel the Boize" (yes, that would be a cover of Come On Feel the Noise with Gay For Johnny Depp alterations made to the lyrics). It comes across as desperate to get your attention and shock, but after a few listens, it just gets old.

This album is dissonant, noisy and full of shrieking vocals and crashing drums. If you like your music discordant and lairy with the sense of humour of a hyperactive 15 year old schoolboy, Gay for Johnny Depp are probably already your favourite band. If not, perhaps it's best to steer clear. The joke gets old fast, and there's better things to break your eardrums with.
