Singer Gavin Degraw was forced to postpone his show in Florida at the last minute on Sunday (27May12) due to a tropical storm.
The Chariot hitmaker was scheduled to perform with Colbie Caillat at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, but bosses at the venue decided to call off the concert to avoid any disruption from Tropical Storm Beryl, which hit the Florida coast late Sunday night.
A post on the venue's website reads, "Due to the deteriorating conditions of Tropical Storm Beryl, tonight's concert at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre featuring Colbie Caillat and Gavin DeGraw will not go on as scheduled."
Natacha MCLeod, marketing and community relations manager for the venue, adds, "We were watching it all day long, and earlier reports had indicated that we'd still be able to do the show. But we made the call to scrub it when it became apparent that it would not be safe to proceed. We decided that the worst of the wind would be hitting us right in the middle of the show. Obviously, we wanted to make sure that everybody could get home safely."
In a post on his page, DeGraw writes, "Well, we had an argument with mother nature tonight and lost," while Caillat adds, "We were all ready & pumped to do tonight's show, bummed they made us cancel! Hope everyone is safe in the hurricane."
The tropical storm gained momentum throughout Sunday, and looked set to be upgraded to hurricane status as WENN went to press. The storm also put a damper on Florida's Memorial Day (28May12) celebrations, with Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown cancelling all of the city's ceremonies due to the weather.
