TV presenter and former professional footballer Gary Lineker is set to divorce his wife of six years, Danielle Bux, reportedly because he doesn’t want to start another family.

55 year old ‘Match of the Day’ host Lineker and his 36 year old wife have apparently been living separately for almost a year, and a formal decree nisi bringing their marriage to an end has been handed down on Wednesday morning (January 13th) at Southampton County Court, according to a report in The Sun.

Despite Lineker’s reported £20 million fortune, the pair have apparently opted for a “value divorce”, costing £400 and filled out on a government website, with both of them apparently filling out the forms together.

The Sun reports that split is amicable, with an unnamed source saying: “Usually these things are very sad and often acrimonious but with Gary and Danielle it is very much friendly with no legal battle that can cost a lot of money.”

Apparently, the split is primarily down to Lineker’s unwillingness to start another family with Bux. He had divorced his first wife Michelle, the mother of his four sons, in 2006 before marrying Danielle in 2009 having met two years previously. She has a daughter from a previous relationship.

“They made a great couple but their different views on having children is what made them realise they had to split," the source continued. "They both know it is the right thing to do and are looking forward to the future. They are convinced they will stay friends.”

However, Lineker tweeted on Wednesday that he and Danielle “had many wonderful years together. We remain very close and the greatest of friends.” She tweeted in return that she’d “cherish their relationship”.
