Garth Brooks is happily married to Trisha Yearwood
In an interview this past Friday (Nov 29th) on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' Brooks was very candid in discussing falling in love with Trisha and tying the knot in 2005.
The 'Wrapped Up In You' singer admitted, "I've got to tell you, I never knew it could be like this. I never knew that everyday you could wake up and feel like this. And I have God and I have Ms. Yearwood to thank for this."
The pair were first good friends before they became romantically linked and they met back in 1987 when they were both in previous marriages.
Songwriter Kent Blazy introduced them to each other and as soon as Trisha left Brooks admitted he felt something of her, "When she left, he goes, 'What did you think?' I said, 'Well, it's strange, because I felt that feeling like when you just meet your wife, but I've been married for 13 months,'" Brooks said.
However the country star wanted to be a committed husband to his college sweetheart and wife Sandy Mahl, so Brooks did not act upon his attraction towards Yearwood.
"Being married, it's got to be right. This is who you went to college with, and you were married in front of God and your family and everything," he told DeGeneres. "So you keep hacking, and you work and you work and you work. And then comes that time where you're looking at the rest of your life going, 'How do you want to live it?'"
They eventually divorced in 2000 and Yearwood, who was previously married to Chris Latham and Robert Reynolds, was also single at the time, so they began dating.
"We'd known each other music-wise, but we got to see each other as people," Brooks said. "And I've got to tell you, if you like her and don't know her, you'll love her. If you love her and don't know her, you'll worship her. She's the real deal," he gushed over his wife.
Brooks also expressed that he felt Yearwood was one of the top "five female voices of all time".
