LATEST: Country star Garth Brooks' comeback single is on course to become the biggest hit of his career.

The singer has come out of retirement with the track GOOD RIDE COWBOY - a tribute to his late pal, rodeo star CHRIS LEDOUX - and it's already racing up the US singles charts.

The track arrives at number 93 on the Billboard Hot 100, but provides Brooks with his highest debut ever on the Hot Country Songs chart.

His last top 20 debut came in 1991 with THE THUNDER ROLLS.

Meanwhile, Brooks' upcoming performance as part of the 80th birthday celebrations of Nashville's Grand Ole Opry will be the singer's first televised appearance since he announced his retirement in 2000.
