Irish actor Gabriel Byrne was raised by such a strict Catholic family, he was unaware of his physical appearance until he reached adulthood.

THE USUAL SUSPECTS star was instructed by his parents to ignore his facial features, and waited until his mid-twenties before discovering some of his most noticeable attributes.

He says, "My parents brought me up with such strict Irish-Catholic views about vanity that I was taught it was utterly shameful to even look in the mirror.

"I did not know I had blue eyes until I was 25 years old."
