G-Unit rapper Young Buck has been accused of stabbing a man who hit hip-hop mogul Dr Dre at Monday night's (15NOV04) Vibe Awards.

Chaos broke out at the Santa Monica, California ceremony when Los Angeles-native JIMMY JAMES JOHNSON attacked Dre as he was preparing to accept a lifetime achievement award from Snoop Dogg and Quincy Jones.

After security initially pulled Johnson off Dre, he was repeatedly stabbed by Buck (real name DAVID DARNELL BROWN) during a fight involving several people including 50 CENT and Lloyd Banks, according to police who have studied videotape evidence.

Police Chief JAMES BUTTS says, "Brown is seen lunging over another male and swinging the knife at Mr. Johnson's upper body while Johnson is looking away from him. Brown is clearly depicted as holding a knife after the assault and is one of a number of fight participants that was pepper-sprayed by officers in their attempt to stop this fight.

"We're asking Mr. David Darnell Brown to surrender himself to police."

Police want to charge Brown with assault with a deadly weapon.

Despite Brown's alleged willing to fight, he joined fellow G-Unit pals, including 50 Cent, to pick up Best Group.

After the fight broke out, top stars, including Alicia Keys, fled the venue after the crowd began shoving each other, throwing chairs and punches.

Vibe president KENARD GIBBS laments, "It is unfortunate that an event so many people worked very hard to create has been tainted by the actions of a few individuals."

Dre's rival hip-hop mogul Marion 'Suge' Knight has denied earlier reports Johnson belongs to his entourage, saying, "One thing about me, if I do something, I'ma (I'll) claim it. I'm not a idiot. See, an idiot would go out there and do stuff."

Johnson, 26, suffered a collapsed lung in the attack and is currently in a stable condition in a local hospital.
